We’re very proud and pleased to learn that Chincoteague Island was named as one of the TripAdvisor top 10 U.S. islands in their 2013 Traveler’s Choice Awards. The online, destination review service based the decision on the reviews and opinions of thousands of contributing travelers.
TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice® Islands awards were given to more than 100 islands around the globe, including the U.S., the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, South America, Europe, and the South Pacific. Chincoteague Island was one of only 10 U.S. islands selected.
It comes as no surprise to those of us who live here that the simple beauty of our small fishing and oystering community should be considered worthy of notice. The Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge’s wild ponies and Assateague Island National Seashore’s endangered waterfowl have won over the hearts of thousands of visitors.
Our small, island town offers a rich history and culture, with 19th century historical sites, art galleries, and a thriving cultural center. The slow, comfortable pace of everyday, island life is reflected in the serenity of our bike paths, seashores, and neighborly hellos. Homey lodging, delightful shopping, and tempting restaurants round out the reasons behind our success as a relaxing, unique destination.
We are proud to have affected so many, so positively with the natural beauty of our home. Sharing the deliberate, comfortable pace of our Chincoteague Island lifestyle is a pleasure. Thank you so much for voting us into the top 10 U.S. islands in the 2013 Traveler’s Choice Awards!
