The Island Manor of Chincoteague

Chincoteague Decoy Show

August 28th, 2013 by islandmanor

It’s not surprising that residents of an island would have a fascination with waterfowl. One way our coexistence with our ocean environment manifests itself is through the art of the Chincoteague residents. Some especially beautiful specimens of this work will be on display during the 23rd Annual Chincoteague Decoy Carvers’ and Artists’ Association Decoy Show, taking place over Labor Day weekend, Saturday & Sunday August 31 & September 1, 2013.

Peruse waterfowl carvings, wildlife art, exhibits and sales from the talented artists of Chincoteague Island. Over 40 exhibitors will display their decoy carving, wildlife paintings, fine art, photography, jewelry and carving. Arts supplies will also be for sale, along with food and drink vendors. In addition, the show provides supervised activities for children under 12.

Many of the show’s attendee’s return year after year, looking forward to seeing the colorful mallards and intricate carvings.

Admission is $3, $5 for a two-day p. 12 and under are free. The show is held inside the Chincoteague Center, at 6155 Lewis Street, only one mile from our downtown bed and breakfast.

Assateague Lighthouse SunsetThis is a beautiful time of year to visit the island. The summer heat during the day gives you a golden hue, and urges you into the surf to cool down. At night, sea breezes keep your skin cool.
