Blueberries – is there a more perfect food? The blueberry is both sweetly delicious and a healthy snack. Perhaps that’s why this otherwise humble, little fruit has its own celebration: The 2014 Chincoteague Blueberry Festival!
Scheduled for midsummer – Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, July 25th, 26th, and 27th, 9am to 4:30pm – Chincoteague’s Blueberry Festival promises a great time for all – and blueberries!
Of course, one of the best parts of the festival are all the fresh, juicy, blueberries you get to eat – but you have to act fast or risk missing them when they sell out – and they will! Luckily you can pre-order yours from Dick Jones at: 540-273-2963. The same is true of Sugarbakers’ wildly popular Ultimate Blueberry Pies, available whole or by the slice. Call Sugarbakers at 757-336-3712 to make sure you get yours.
Even if you’re not all that excited by blueberries, the festival is still a treat. The largest fine arts and crafts event on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, the Chincoteague Blueberry Festival is held every year in Chincoteague Island’s Chincoteague Center, the weekend preceding that of the annual Pony Swim. The Chincoteague Blueberry Festival boasts over 100 fine artisans from all over the Southern US, displaying and selling their handmade arts and crafts.
And it’s more than just blueberries and an arts and crafts show. The Chincoteague Blueberry Festival also features delicious food and toe-tapping, live entertainment: a wonderful slice of hometown Americana at its finest.
Musicians for the 2014 Chincoteague Blueberry Festival include:
Cole & Young – acoustic pop
Gus the Bardic Troubadour – traditional and modern Irish folk music
Hemlock Hollow – Americana, bluegrass and folk
Black Elvis – Elvis impersonator
Rick James – R&B/Funk
Mike Hawker – folk, country, rock, blues, and bluegrass
