Chincoteague Oyster Festival 2017 – the 45th annual! – celebrates the heritage of Chincoteague Salts and welcomes the start of oyster season. Come join in the fun on October 7th, 2017 at Tom’s Cove Park on Chincoteague Island!
Is there any finer phrase, especially when spoken on the pristine shores of Chincoteague Island? I don’t think so.
If there is a rival, it might be “Chincoteague Oyster Festival.” The waters around Chincoteague and Assateague are known for their oyster beds and the special “Chincoteague Salts” that dwell there. Chincoteague’s history would have been very different and a little sad without these frisky, little bivalves. So we celebrate – and how!
Chincoteague Oyster Festival is an all-you-can-eat extravaganza. You’ll see oysters on the half shell, steamed oysters, fried oysters, grilled oysters, and of course oyster fritters. The festival isn’t just oysters, however. You’ll also be presented with an opportunity to enjoy clam chowder and fritters, shrimp cocktail, and hushpuppies.
The festival also includes non-seafood fare like hot dogs, hamburgers, boardwalk fries, a full salad bar, and the like. Water and soft drinks will also be on hand to help you wash it all down. Beer will also be available for purchase.
Your ticket to Chincoteague Oyster Festival entitles you to enjoy all the food you can eat. Unfortunately, you wont be alone and the freshest, most popular items can go quite quickly. Consequently, arriving as the gate opens and getting a good seat is key to ensuring a chance to slurp down some of the those fresh “Chincoteague Salts!”
