Chincoteague Seafood Festival 2018 – 50 Years of Food and Fun

April 9th, 2018 by Corey A. Edwards

Chincoteague Seafood Festival 2018Come celebrate 50 years of excellent seafood and fun at Chincoteague Seafood Festival 2018 – Saturday May 5th, 10am to 4pm, at Tom’s Cove Park on Chincoteague Island.

The Chincoteague Seafood Festival isn’t just the best, all-you-can-eat seafood event on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, it’s a living tradition. We’ve been holding this beloved festival in one form or another since 1968, which makes 2018 the 50th anniversary.

The traditional gift for a 50th anniversary is gold but here on Chincoteague, we’ve got something even better: fresh seafood! Chincoteague Seafood Festival is an all-you-can-eat event of fresh, local seafood, both raw and prepared.

Some of the Mid-Atlantic Coast’s best fishing waters are just off our shores. At this time of year, local anglers are busy harvesting striped bass, drumfish, and flounder. We’re also known for our special oyster beds and the rare “Chincoteague Salts” grown here.

Chincoteague Seafood Festival is a celebration of this incredible bounty. During the event, local restaurant chefs, volunteers, and professionals offer their signature dishes of both old and new seafood favorites. You’ll see steamed clams, fresh shrimp, homemade chowder – you name it, and all freshly caught and prepared. Just look at this partial menu!

A variety of commemorative items will be available for purchase, as well as all the offerings under the Big Tent at the annual Chincoteague Arts & Crafts Show. Consequently, you’ll want to bring a little spending money with you, too.

Island Trolley Services on the Green and High School Routes will be free on the day of the festival until 5pm.

Gates at Chincoteague Seafood Festival open at 10am. Appetizers are served at 11am, main dishes from noon until 4pm. So come on – don’t miss the 50th anniversary celebration of this Eastern Shore Tradition!
