2018 Chincoteague Decoy Carvers and Artists Decoy Show

August 4th, 2018 by Corey A. Edwards

2018 Chincoteague Decoy Carvers and Artists Decoy ShowIt’s September and time for the annual Chincoteague Decoy Carvers and Artists Decoy Show! September 1st through the 2nd, 2018 on Chincoteague Island.

The Chincoteague Decoy Carvers and Artists Show features over 25 exhibitors showcasing some of the finest regional waterfowl carvings and wildlife art.

While “Carvers” is part of the show name, the show is much more than just hand-carved wooden decoys. Attendees will also be treated to hand-crafted jewelry, photography, paintings, and other types of fine art.

Best of all – most of the art on display will be for sale. The show makes for an amazing early-holiday shopping opportunity … or you could just get something for yourself! Most of the proceeds from show sales will go towards local charities, so you can feel good about that purchase, too!

Another neat aspect of the Chincoteague Decoy Festival and Art Show is the chance to meet and speak with the artists. Come learn what inspires them and, maybe, pick up a few tips for your own projects. Plus, nothing adds depth to an art purchase like meeting and chatting with the artist who created it.

The show also includes a variety of raffles and vendors will also be offering art supplies, food, and drink.

Visit Miles Hancock’s Workshop Exhibit

Lovers of hand-carved wooden decoys will also want to stop by the Museum of Chincoteague to see the newly moved and preserved Miles Hancock Workshop.

Miles Hancock (1887-1974) was a famous Chincoteague decoy carver, known for his exquisite decoys as well as his decorative carvings. Hancock’s workshop was moved to the museum in 2017 and fully restored to look as if he’s just stepped out for a moment.

The exhibit, which often hosts working carvers, helps to keep both the carving tradition and Hancock’s worthy legacy alive. Anyone attending the 2018 Chincoteague Decoy Carvers and Artists Show will want to visit this amazing exhibit.
