Summer is here, the sun is out, and Virginia has moved to Phase 3. Island Manor House is back and ready to see you – so what’s open on Chincoteague Island?
2020 is certainly one for the books. In some ways, it seems like we just had an extended winter and no spring. With summer here and Virginia moving to Phase Three on July 1st, however, things are looking a little brighter.
There are still guidelines and precautions one must take, of course but it is now possible to have yourself a Chincoteague getaway. So what’s open?
What’s Open On Chincoteague
One thing to know is that virtually all of the island’s big summer events have been cancelled for 2020. No Chincoteague Island Blueberry Festival, no Pony Penning, Fireman’s Carnival, and no Pony Swim. The annual Pony Auction will be an online event. It’s the first time since WWII that we haven’t seen a swim or carnival – but don’t be too sad.
For those who’ve never seen a pony swim, penning, or Fireman’s Carnival, it’s a loss. For those who have, however, the opportunity to visit a less crowded, calmer, and more personal Chincoteague is a real boon.
There’s still plenty to do and see on the island. Many shops and restaurants are open, parks are open, and the beach is open. A full and continually updated list of what’s open on Chincoteague can be found at www.chincoteaguechamber.com.
Imagine not struggling to find parking, reservations, or an intimate moment during a time when the island can otherwise often be a bit of a zoo. That’s right, when life hands you lemons, ignore them and head to Chincoteague Island!
All the constant worrying about our health and safety is stressful and unhealthy unto itself. Getting outdoors is proven to help both with stress and depression as well help maintaining things like social distancing.
Luckily, Chincoteague offers numerous outdoor activities like beachcombing, biking, hiking, birdwatching, and more – which we can help facilitate.
Island Manor House is following all state mandates and taking all other extra steps to ensure that your stay with us is as fun, friendly, and above all, safe as it can possibly be. We look forward to seeing you on the island!
