Save Your Appetite for Chincoteague Oyster Festival 2019

September 13, 2019 by Corey A. Edwards

Chincoteague Oyster Festival 2019Come out to Chincoteague Island this October for Chincoteague Oyster Festival 2019! Oysters on the half shell, steamed, frittered, single fried, and more. October 12th, 10am to 4pm in Tom’s Cove Park.

Looking for a great way to kick off your autumn? Make a break for Virginia’s eastern shore and the 47th annual Chincoteague Oyster Festival!

Chincoteague Island is always a great place for getting away from it all and rejuvenating for a few days. That’s especially true with fresh seafood and one of the island’s popular annual festivals in the mix!

Although it’s no longer true that you should only eat oysters in the months containing an ‘R’ (September through April), it IS still generally true that oysters are better in autumn and winter. This is especially true in September and October, when they tend to be more plump and sweet.

Harvesting the bounty of the waters around Chincoteague played a major role in the island’s history, and oysters were a big part of that. The oyster beds around Chincoteague and Assateague produce a unique and prized variety of oyster known as “Chincoteague Salts” that took our name to banquets around the globe.

Chincoteague Oyster Festival celebrates both the island’s oyster fishing history and the start of oyster season. Come join in the fun!

Relax On A Chincoteague Island Holiday Getaway!

November 10, 2018 by Corey A. Edwards

Chincoteague Island Holiday Getaway!Come to Virginia’s eastern shore this holiday season for a Chincoteague Island holiday getaway! It’s sunny, cool and there’s plenty to do. In fact, the calendar is so crowded with special events you’d think it was summer!

After summer, fall may be the next best season to visit Chincoteague. Our skies stay primarily sunny, with an average daily temperature of 50 degrees. While we do see more visitors during the spring and summer seasons, that’s a big part of the attraction of the “off-season” – smaller crowds!

Chincoteague is home to unique shops and galleries that are perfect for holiday shopping. You’ll also find some of the finest, freshest seafood on the coast.

Further, just because it’s the “off-season” doesn’t mean we’re rolled up and stored away ’til next spring. Chincoteague is our home year-round and we have a lot of fun, especially during the holiday season.
