If you’re a fan of fresh, regional beers then you’ll be happy to know that Chincoteague is home to a craft brewery. Black Narrows Brewing, the first brewery on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, has been brewing its unique and popular beers here since 2017.
The craft beer movement that swept the nation has been a little slower coming to the eastern shore of Virginia but it is now officially here. Black Narrows Brewing opened their doors on Chincoteague in December of 2017. Less than a year later they were awarded 2018’s “Brewery of the Year” by the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging and Travel Association.
Black Narrows brews a variety of unusual and delicious beers. “How Bout It” is a popular corn lager. “Serpette,” a Rosé-inspired wild ale, uses grapes from Chatham Vineyards. “Salts” is a tart wheat beer that uses oysters from our very own waters.
In fact, the brewery uses locally sourced ingredients whenever they can. Further, all their spent grain goes to feed the heritage breed pigs at Perennial Roots Farm.
Best of all, the brewery also donates 10 percent of gross beer sales to different local and global causes every month. This means every beer you enjoy from their brewery is giving a little back to the world – and that’s a good feeling.
