More Springtime Activities in Chincoteague

Hiking on Assateague Island: This is a great time to hit the trails in Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. The temperature is cooler, there are less visitors in the park and birds are abundant.

The Wildlife Loop is a 3¼ mile round-trip route around a soil management area. It is a great place to observe wildlife, especially waterfowl and wading birds. It is open to walkers and bikers throughout the day, but vehicles are only permitted to drive on it from 3:00 P.M. till dusk.

Check back for our next blog with a full list of hiking trails in the Wildlife Refuge!

The Island Coffeehouse is a cultural event that takes place the third Saturday of each month. Usually this includes a spoken word/poetry/theater act and then a musical performance. Meet new people and mingle. Enjoy a coffee, soft drinks, beer, wine and homemade goodies.

The Island Coffeehouse is a popular event with islanders of all ages and is a wonderful chance for visitors to expose themselves to something besides the beach while they are on Chincoteague. Experience the wonderful local dining during your stay at Island Manor Bed and Breakfast

Chincoteague Island rightly has a reputation for fresh delicious seafood. The Mid-Atlantic Coast has a long history as a major fishery and Chincoteague has always been a fishing village. The locals have fishing in their blood. They know how to catch seafood and prepare it just right! While staying at our Chincoteague B&B, you certainly can’t miss out on our local restaurants serving these fresh fruits from the sea.

Below is a sampling of Chincoteague seafood restaurants and dining experiences. This is by no means the end-all-be-all list! There are far more options to suit seafood- and non-seafood-lovers alike. For a more complete list, please visit the Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce. Here are a few Chincoteague seafood places to whet your appetite:

AJ’s on the Creek: Casually elegant fine dining with water views indoors or out. Artfully preparing seafood, beef, poultry and vegetarian dishes paired with fine wines. Lounge features live music. @ 6585 Maddox Blvd. ~ (757) 336-5888

Sea Shell Cafe: A casual cafe serving seafood and beyond, from tapas and pasta to brunches and a full dinner menu. Bring your dogs to dine with you on the porch! @ 7085 Maddox Blvd. ~ (757) 336-6005
