Cork and Canvas Wine Festival 2018Come out to Chincoteague Island for an afternoon of wine, beer, food, music, and more at the Cork and Canvas Wine Festival! Saturday, October 13th, 2018, Noon to 5pm at the Chincoteague Island KOA campground.

Chincoteague’s annual Cork and Canvas Festival is a great way to enjoy a variety of regional specialties. Virginia wineries, breweries, distilleries, will present their best to accompany the stunning views of Assateague Lighthouse.

This one-day beer and wine festival also features the area’s best food trucks, offering many, delicious meal options for purchase. Live music will be provided by the energetic Tiki Bar Band.

The Chincoteague Decoy Carvers and Artists Show features over 25 exhibitors showcasing some of the finest regional waterfowl carvings and wildlife art.

While “Carvers” is part of the show name, the show is much more than just hand-carved wooden decoys. Attendees will also be treated to hand-crafted jewelry, photography, paintings, and other types of fine art.

Visit Chincoteague Island and View a NASA Rocket Launch!Chincoteague Island is famous for many things but did you know you could view a NASA rocket launch from our shores? We’ve permanent front-row tickets to the NASA Flight Facility on neighboring Wallops Island!

You’d think having herds of wild ponies, sought after oysters, a historic lighthouse, and miles of pristine beaches would be enough for any destination but no. On top of everything else, NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility is only 5 miles away from Chincoteague, as the crow flies. Consequently, Chincoteague Island serves as an excellent vantage point to view a NASA rocket launch.

When most people think of Chincoteague Island, visions of wild ponies tend to fill their heads – and why not? The annual Chincoteague Island pony swim is a very unique and special thing – but it’s hardly the only reason to visit Chincoteague Island!

Chincoteague was once known for its unique, salty oysters. While “Chincoteague Salts,” as they’re known, are still sought after, most of the currently rebounding local oyster beds were over-fished during the 19th century. Today we’re more known for our fishing, clamming, and crabbing.
