Chincoteague is Virginia’s only resort island. Located just south of the Maryland border on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, the island is within easy reach of all major cities on the mid-Atlantic seaboard.

Take In Stunning Views from Atop Historic Assateague Lighthouse

Assateague Lighthouse sunsetAssateague Lighthouse opens its doors to weekend visitors beginning in April. If you’ve never experienced the view from the top of the tower, you’re missing out!

The first Assateague Light was built on the Virginia side of Assateague Island in 1832. The original structure proved too short, however. The red and white brick tower seen today replaced in in 1867.

The tower is 142 feet tall, the base over 27 feet in diameter, with 175 steps to the top. The tower’s twin rotating lights are 154 feet above sea level and can be seen 19 miles out to sea.

2018 Chincoteague Decoy Carvers and Artists Decoy ShowIt’s September and time for the annual Chincoteague Decoy Carvers and Artists Decoy Show! September 1st through the 2nd, 2018 on Chincoteague Island.

The Chincoteague Decoy Carvers and Artists Show features over 25 exhibitors showcasing some of the finest regional waterfowl carvings and wildlife art.

While “Carvers” is part of the show name, the show is much more than just hand-carved wooden decoys. Attendees will also be treated to hand-crafted jewelry, photography, paintings, and other types of fine art.
